Abounding Grace

Ready for a cliché? Nobody’s perfect.

Earth-shattering, isn’t it? I bet you’ve never heard that one before.

It’s one of the most common truths out there. It is impossible for a human being to be perfect. All we can ever be is better, but better will never reach its end. We can never get our better to reach perfect. It’s just part of being human.

Recently, I’ve encountered a new level of imperfection, if that makes sense. And it’s been opening my eyes to one of the most powerful and painful and wonderful things I’ve yet experienced. Continue reading “Abounding Grace”

Goodbye to Dreams

As I’ve begun ringing in the New Year, a lot of thoughts have crossed my mind. It’s this time of year that you look back on what you’ve done in the past 12 months–what you’ve accomplished, what’s changed. You think back on the mistakes you’ve made that you have sworn to never make again. You remember the times that you were so engulfed in some horrible or stressful experience that you thought you’d never make it out with your sanity still in tact. But still, somehow you did–more or less. Let’s Talk About People

Okay, I’m going to start off by pointing out something hilarious that happened while preparing to write this post. In an attempt to come up with some synonyms for “person,” I thought of the term homo sapien (very scientific of me, isn’t it?) But I wasn’t entirely sure if I was getting the term right or if I was spelling it right. So, like every other intelligent, educated, and adult person would do…I Googled it. And I couldn’t have asked for a funnier, more appropriate first result from that search–the Urban Dictionary definition of homo sapien. It is as follows:

“A pitiful race that will most likely cause its own extinction before its technologies fully develop.”

Okay, I know it’s cynical. (And if you’re not familiar with Urban Dictionary…Google it). But you have to admit–partly true and kinda funny. However, I think there’s a whole lot more to the human race than this downer of a definition.

On Graduating College

Now, you had to know that I’d be writing about this. There are so many things going through my head right now that I can’t help myself.

The time has come. Tomorrow morning I will put on a ridiculous-looking cap and gown, sit through a 2 hour ceremony, listen to over a thousand strangers’ names get called, hear about five familiar names, until finally…mine. Brianna Martin. Graduating college.

If you know me at all, you probably know that I’ve had one or two emotional breakdowns over the past week. Continue reading “On Graduating College”
