Even when they don’t have your soup.

I will start off by telling you that my inspiration for writing this post is the fact that I currently cannot breathe through my nose, I have been sneezing non-stop for the past four days, and at one point, I used at least 75 tissues within a five hour period. Glamorous, right?

No. Not at all. I feel like I could take flight at any moment due to the top half of my head feeling like a balloon.

But, here I am–trying to fight through the discomfort and fatigue and write about the good of all of this.

Huh, the good. Riiight. Continue reading “Even when they don’t have your soup.”

Shut Up and Listen

Okay, am I the only one who automatically thinks of Lily’s TV show from The Princess Diaries when I hear that phrase?

Anyway…this post is dedicated to a topic that may not be hard for you to figure out by now. Listening.

I will say that like many people I know, I don’t like to be interrupted. Who does? I mean, it’s just common decency. When you’re talking, the other person should wait for that little pause “cue” at the end of the sentence that you give them before putting their two cents in. To me, being interrupted is like having a warm, soft, luscious brownie in your hand and lifting it to your mouth, but just before it reaches your lips BAM! someone smacks it out of your grasp and onto the floor like Mutombo in that Geico commercial.

Not. Cool. Continue reading “Shut Up and Listen”

Crosswords and the Borrowers

Almost every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I have the opportunity to pick up a free newspaper on campus at one of the little stands that I pass by. I started doing this sometime last semester, thinking Ya know, I should really make an effort to keep up on current events and what’s happening in my community.

So I would grab one, take it down to the study lounge with me, and take a look inside–skipping over the boring stuff, looking for the interesting stuff that’s typically either a story about someone else’s utter stupidity or someone else’s selflessness and generosity. Then eventually, after about 5 minutes of browsing through the pages and finding enjoyment in that beautiful sound and feeling of the paper crumpling between my fingers, I give up and get back onto Facebook.

I know. Lame. Continue reading “Crosswords and the Borrowers”

Let me get this straight…

After contemplating for a significant amount of time (about 5 minutes) over what I should write my very first post about, I decided that it would be best to let people get to know me. Now, there is an “about” section of this blog that gives a little info about me, but it doesn’t really get into who I really am. Whenever I read something like a blog, I like to know–or at least have an idea about–who this person is that I’m spending my time listening to.

It’s just fair, I think.

And I also think that one of the best ways to get to know someone is to know what makes them weird. Because we’re all weird in our own weird little ways. And when you find out the weird stuff about a person, somehow you feel a little bit closer to them. Or you just like them more because they make you feel better about yourself…

But I’m going to stick with the first one. Continue reading “Let me get this straight…”
